AC service rate in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad (2026): what actually decides the price

A proper service is not a two-minute hose-down of the filter. The technician should remove and wash the indoor unit's filter and cooling coil, clean the drain line so it does not leak in July, wash the outdoor condenser coil, check the fan motors, measure the gas pressure and check the amperage the compressor is drawing. If any of these are skipped, the unit will cool weaker within weeks and you will be paying twice.

• Outdoor unit: condenser coil wash, fan check
• Gas pressure and compressor current reading, written on the receipt
• Remote, thermostat and swing motor check

Karachi runs ACs nine months a year in humid, salty air, so coils clog faster and technicians see far more corrosion and gas leaks; they price for the extra work. Lahore has a short but brutal peak from May to July, and demand alone pushes quotes up in those weeks. Islamabad and Rawalpindi have a milder season and many units in multi-storey buildings where the outdoor unit hangs on a wall, so access and ladder work matter more than the climate.

Inside each city the area matters too: a technician crossing half of Karachi from Landhi to Clifton adds travel to the quote, and a society with parking and a lift is cheaper to serve than a fourth-floor flat with the outdoor unit on the roof.

• Tonnage: a 1-ton and a 2-ton unit take different time and chemicals
• Type: DC inverter units need a technician who can read error codes, and their PCBs are expensive if damaged during a careless wash
• Gas: if pressure is low, R22 is cheaper to top up than R410a or R32, and the leak should be found, not just refilled
• Access: ground floor versus roof or a hanging outdoor unit
• Season: quotes in the last week of May are not the quotes of February

Technicians are idle from October to February. A full service booked in November is done slowly, carefully and usually for less than in June, and the unit is ready before the first heat wave. Families who service in winter rarely post emergency "AC thanda nahi kar raha" jobs in Ramzan or Eid week, when every technician in the city is booked.
