Check these before you post a job
- Power and the socket: try another appliance in the same socket
- The lid or door switch: most machines will not spin with the lid open or the switch broken
- The drain hose: kinked, blocked or pushed too far into the drain pipe
- The inlet tap and filter: tanker water in Karachi and bore water in Punjab clog the inlet mesh
- Overloading: a single heavy blanket unbalances the drum and the machine stops
The faults technicians find most often
- Not draining: drain pump blocked by coins, hairpins or socks, or the pump motor burnt
- Not spinning: lid switch, drive belt, clutch (top loaders) or carbon brushes (front loaders)
- Not filling: inlet valve or a clogged filter
- Loud noise: drum bearings gone, usually after years of overloading, or a foreign object
- Water leaking: door gasket (front loaders), hose, or a cracked outer tub
- Dead or stuck on one cycle: timer on old semi-automatics, PCB on automatics
- Semi-automatic spin tub not turning: the spin motor or its capacitor
Semi-automatic versus automatic: different repairs
A twin-tub semi-automatic (the most common machine in Pakistani homes) has a wash motor, a spin motor, a timer and a gear box. Repairs are mechanical, parts are cheap and every mohalla technician knows them. A fully automatic front or top loader has a PCB, a drum with bearings and sensors; repairs need a technician who works on that brand, and a PCB fault is the expensive one. Voltage spikes during load-shedding are the usual PCB killer; a stabiliser or a good UPS bypass helps.
What decides the cost
- The part: a lid switch or capacitor is small; a drain pump or belt is medium; bearings, motor rewinding or a PCB are the bigger jobs
- Brand and model: Samsung, LG and Haier parts cost differently from Dawlance or Super Asia, and genuine versus local makes a difference
- Doorstep repair versus taking the machine to the shop (bearing jobs often go to the shop)
- Whether the fault is one part or a chain (a burnt pump that also cooked the PCB)
Getting it fixed
Post the job on Mechanics4U with the brand, model, semi or fully automatic, and the symptom in your own words ("machine spin nahi kar rahi, awaz aa rahi hai"). Technicians in your city reply with a diagnosis visit price or a price for the likely fix. Ask for the old part back and for the repair to be tested with a full cycle before you pay. Same fault within 48 hours and they return, labour free.
Common questions
How much does washing machine repair cost in Pakistan?
It depends on the part and the brand: small for a switch or capacitor, larger for a PCB or bearings. Post the job to get quotes from technicians for your exact machine.
Is it worth repairing an old semi-automatic?
Usually yes; parts are cheap and mechanical. If the tub is cracked or the wash motor is burnt on a very old machine, weigh the repair against a new one.
Why does my automatic machine stop mid-cycle?
Often a drain problem, an unbalanced load or a door lock fault. On some models it is the PCB after a voltage spike.
Can I use tanker water?
Yes, but clean the inlet filter monthly and expect scale on the heater element in front loaders.
